I've been struggling to commit to a project.

Mostly because family, health, and our pets eat the day before I ever get to the work. And then I'm already tired AF.

And the indecisiveness is the real black hole.

But I love this stuff. Spirituality. Consciousness. Energy. Movement through space and time. Psychology. Health, etc.

Not for the first time, I'm thinking about pouring all of that into one product.

Write. Speak on camera. Do the marketing properly.

And I'm equally fascinated by agents, coding, text editors and I just want to get deeper into that too.

I might be limiting myself but I must kind of just like go all in, maybe go all in on two projects and see which one surfaces.

When I see gay men, I always see little scared boys.

No matter the wealth. No matter the status.

They never had the courage to embody their masculinity wherever they stand.

There’s always a backdoor — pun intended — to weasel out when the pressure gets real and go “gay.”

These are men who stopped the cycle of life for lust of another man.

And if this was about Kundalini, you can raise that with a woman too.

This is coming from me, who thought he was gay because my mother repressed me.

Ice Baths Are Childs Play Compared to Winter Sea

I’m a big fan of campfires.

I just love hanging out there around the campfire, barefoot, even during winter.

It connects me to earth. Connects my body to the spirit.

I’ve also found that the campfires ignite something within us.

Connecting us to the inner fire within. Sparking memories and connecting us to our soul.

Why is this important? Well it’s actually all frequency and vibration. And there are people and energies that pull you in directions.

Either trying to destroy you by pulling you down.

That’s why it’s important to meditate where you came from.

So you don’t get pulled away by the thoughts and manifestations of the world and ill meaning people.

Stay and meditate around the campfires. Hit the sauna and the cold sea during winter.

Stay connected to yourself.

Back in 2003, a German film crew filming in the Gobi Desert captured an incredibly moving moment: after a tough two-day birth, a mother camel rejected her newborn. A nomadic family then performed the ancient Hoos singing ritual passed down for generations. Once the song ended, the camel shed tears and finally accepted her baby. This powerful scene became one of the most memorable parts of the Oscar-nominated documentary The Story of the Weeping Camel.

My mission is to bring awareness to the energies running our psyche and the unconscious.

Not to make anyone look bad.

I have a Jewish mother. Just like Michael Moritz. For a long time she could still find fault in everything I did and not one ounce of praise. It took years to learn to value myself.

That work was constant learning about myself and psychology, and the help of the plants to see deeper into the subconscious.

Michael Moritz is successful on the outside. What stuck with me is this: he never feels finished. There is always more to do. Which is not a bad thing in itself. But it's important to know what really drives him.

When he talks about his mother he laughs and plays with his hands. That is coping. Underneath it is pain. The heavy breathing is a body that is not at ease.

These are the people and the energies that run our society. Patterns pass on. You can end up with a psyche that never rests.

This is where my two decades of plant medicine and psychology come in.

I was like this. The solution is to rewire yourself. Psychedelics — ayahuasca, mushrooms, peyote, DMT, cannabis used with intention — helped me work through what was passed on to me.

The reward: a loving and loyal family - wife, kids, pets. As well as confidence and the ability to read people and the room.

The tradeoff: All on my mother’s side still hate me for naming what I saw. They think I’m a drug addict. I can live with that. You never get the boy out of the man — unless you do the work.

Clip from @patrick_oshag’s conversation with Michael Moritz.

Michael joined Sequoia in 1986 and co-led the firm with Doug Leone (@dougleone) from 1995 to 2012. His investments include Google, Yahoo, PayPal, and Stripe.

His new book, Ausländer, traces his parents' escape from Nazi Germany and helps explain his lifelong interest in what shapes exceptional people.

We discuss:
- The infamous Steve Jobs profile
- Why Don Valentine hired him
- The question he finds most revealing when interviewing people
- Monomania and the cost of greatness
- Why he has never felt good at anything
- Writing, journalism and AI
- What he learned about himself writing Ausländer

I'd recommend watching this one if you can. Michael was incredibly thoughtful and reflective throughout, particularly when talking about his parents, childhood, and the more difficult parts of his personal story.

In this clip from REWORK: start a business, not a startup.

Alan reads DHH and Jason Fried on the tech-world “startup”: expenses are someone else’s problem, revenue is never an issue, and you spend other people’s money until you figure out how to make your own — a place where the laws of business physics don’t apply. Their line lands hard: a business without a path to profit isn’t a business; it’s a hobby. Actual businesses deal with bills and payroll. Alan adds his own tension — he grew up without speaking the language of money, ambition dulled, and he’s only now learning the value of a dollar. Whatever you build, get paid for the work.

Founder translation: don’t confuse fundraising theater with a company. If your plan only works while someone else covers the burn, you don’t have a business yet — you have a hobby with a pitch deck. Charge. Ship. Cover the bills. Control stays with the people who take revenue seriously.

Start a business. Not a startup that postpones reality.

In this clip from Don Juan: the mentor email you never send.

Alan recounts Derek Sivers’ move: when a hard problem shows up, write an email to your mentors — situation, options, thinking. Don’t send it. Ask what they would say. Rewrite for those imagined replies. After a few rounds the answer is obvious and you don’t need to bother them. Most of those “mentors” don’t even know they are mentors — one doesn’t know he exists.

Founder translation: you already have more judgment than you use. Before you ping advisors, investors, or group chat for a product fork, write the decision as if they will reply. Force the tradeoffs onto the page. Most “I need advice” is unfinished thinking. Finish it alone first.

Write the email. Don’t send it. Ship the decision.

In this clip from REWORK: scratch your own itch.

Fried and Hansson’s point: the easiest way to make a great product is to make something you want to use. Solving someone else’s problem is stabbing in the dark. Alan names the other plays too — bet the next 20 years like Musk, improve what’s proven like Dyson — then lands on the book’s closer: solve your own problem and you can fall in love with what you’re making, because you’ll be on it for years.

Founder translation: don’t invent a market you don’t live in. Build the tool you’d pay for this week. Dogfood it. CatalogMiner for creators with a dead archive, Weeklock for a week that won’t hold — same rule. If you won’t use it, don’t ship it.

Make something you want. Then stay long enough to love it.

Hesse’s point (and Don Juan’s): real knowledge is experience. Inspiration is perishable — you have to act. Then the trap: Siddhartha becomes the rich merchant, the perfect lover, the gambler, and still feels empty. The persona is necessary to function. Believing it is you is the trap.

Founder translation: the LinkedIn founder, the “book-episode guy,” the polished operator — useful masks. If you marry the mask, you stop living the work. Prefer systems over goals. Stay in the worldly life you’re actually building.

Don’t confuse the role with the person doing the work.

Emerson: “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.” I could have pushed through — keep reading, keep shipping recaps, stay consistent with the channel I started. The data said otherwise. Energy off. Rut. And I’m not going to out-Senra David Senra.

Founder translation: the format that got you started is not a vow. If you’re protecting a content persona while the real work (product, craft, technical path) waits, stop. Keep teaching. Drop the container.

Consistency isn’t commitment. Don’t marry the wrong format.

Naval: specific knowledge is found by pursuing your genuine curiosity and passion — not whatever is hot right now. Hot markets pull people into other people’s games. Curiosity pulls you into the one only you can play for a long time.

Founder translation: AI is hot. That doesn’t mean your company should be an AI costume. Alan’s point in the clip is he sold himself short for years — interested in startups and coding, but waiting on developers instead of building. The eyes lighting up at the IDE is the signal. Follow that, then ship a product from it.

Pursue curiosity. Don’t chase what’s hot.

Jung: the persona is not the self.

You build working identities — father, founder, CEO. He calls them masks. You need them to function. The danger is believing that is you.

Here's the founder + family cut of that: the shadow isn't a mood board. It's the failure mechanism.

What you won't own at home shows up as the partner you fight, the kid you can't reach, the mood that ends the evening.

What you won't own in the company shows up as the hire you resent, the customer you ghost, the product you keep "improving" instead of shipping.

Same pattern. Different room.

Meet the mask. Then meet what the mask excluded.

Me yesterday ⚡️

Permalink · On X

If all tools and services get commoditized in the age of AI, what else is there left to build?

Well here’s how I’m thinking about it.

First, the famous words of @davidsenra - is this something that is your last company?

Second, is this a craft you want to develop?

For me personally I’m going to be studying mechatroncis for 2 years. Just because I want to enlighten myself in electrical and mechanical engineering.

I get to study for free and my living costs are covered by my family.

Third. Where’s the excitement? For me I am excited about studying mechatronics! As well as building with AI and agents. As well as creating content around all of this!

I also have almost 2 decades worth of experience with psychedelics aka plant medicines and shamans. Studying and working through my family dynamics, karma and all other stuff that needed healing! In short spiritual energy stuff.

I know I can be of value with that to others. But I’m less excited about it. But it’s a wedge I have and should use. So maybe I’ll use that knowledge to add into my content as well.

This is the path I’m on now. I should choose a specific project to pursue while I study.

In this clip I’m reading Rework on throwing less at the problem.

Jason Fried and DHH: failing restaurants put thirty dishes on the menu thinking more options will broaden appeal. It makes the food worse. Gordon Ramsay’s first move is almost always to trim the menu — usually from thirty to ten. When things aren’t working, the natural move is more people, more time, more money. That makes the problem bigger. The right move is the opposite. Cut back. Do less.

Founder translation: most stuck weeks get “fixed” by adding scope — another feature, another hire, another tool. That spreads the same weak attention thinner. Trim the menu. Pick the one dish you can actually cook well this week and ship that. Adding budget and pushing deadlines forever is how you never finish.

Throw less at the problem.

In this clip I’m reading Rework on constraints.

Jason Fried and DHH: stop whining that you don’t have enough time, money, or people. Less is a good thing. Constraints are advantages in disguise. Limited resources force you to make do with what you’ve got — no room for waste, and that forces you to be creative. Southwest flew one plane type so every pilot and crew member could work any flight. Even with more resources than ever, 37signals still puts one or two people on a product at a time.

Founder translation: scarcity isn’t the blocker. It’s the editor. Don’t wait for the round, the hire, or the perfect setup. Ship with what’s in your hands. Constraints are advantages in disguise.

In this clip I’m in The Teachings of Don Juan — Castaneda’s four enemies of a person of knowledge.

Fear comes first. Then clarity. Then power. Knowledge starts producing results: people listen, influence shows up, money and status follow. Don Juan’s warning is that power is safest in the hands of someone who doesn’t need it. The last enemy isn’t a birthday. It’s old age as exhaustion and comfort — the quiet “I’ve done enough,” when curiosity fades and the warrior wants to rest forever.

Founder translation: the dangerous stretch isn’t the scared beginning. It’s after the first real win. You ship, customers pay, the feed works — and the temptation is to protect the status instead of keep building. Bootstrap rule: keep learning and acting until the end. In a world where time is the hunter, there isn’t room for endless doubt. There’s only time for decisions.

There’s only time for decisions.

Pretty stoked for my mechatronics degree!

I will be learning:
> material science
> electrical engineering
> mechanical engineering
> maths
> physics

I will also be building with AI, agents, blockchain and wherever this will take me.

The goal is to build a company that is my life's work.

In this clip I’m reading the Bhagavad Gita on action without attachment.

Arjuna has a duty he doesn’t want to perform. He’s emotionally attached to the outcome. Krishna’s answer: do your work, but don’t make your psychological well-being dependent on the result. You have the right to work, never to the fruit of work. And don’t twist that into an excuse for inaction — still try. Don’t attach to the fruit, and don’t attach to not acting. Yoga here isn’t the stretches; it’s evenness of mind in success and failure. Detached from the outcome, you’re finally free to act.

Founder translation: stop letting metrics, praise, and fear of a miss own your week. Ship the product, post the lesson, talk to the customer — then release the scoreboard. Clinging to the fruit freezes you. Quitting because the fruit isn’t guaranteed is the same freeze. Do the work that is yours.

Do the work. Don’t marry the outcome.

Your right is to work, but never to the fruit of work.

Renunciation is quitting attachment to the fruit — not quitting the work.

Do the work. Release the outcome. Stay even in success and defeat.

In this clip I’m reading Naval on leverage — from The Almanack of Naval Ravikant.

Code and media are permissionless leverage. They’re the leverage behind the newly rich. You can create software and media that works for you while you sleep. No boss to ask. No gatekeeper to approve the post.

Founder translation: renting your hours doesn’t compound. A product and a body of public work do. I used to buy stacks of books and never finish them because reading without shipping felt like progress. These videos force the opposite — finish the book, say what I learned, leave an asset that keeps working.

Build something that works while you sleep.

In this clip I’m reading Rework on how small companies win attention.

Jason Fried and DHH: when you build an audience, you don’t buy people’s attention. They give it to you. Speak, write, blog, tweet, make videos — share something useful and they come back on their own.

The unfair move isn’t outspend, outsell, or outsponsor. It’s out-teach. Most businesses never think of teaching. They sell. They service. Teaching doesn’t occur to them. Big companies can buy a Super Bowl ad and sit on secrets. You can’t buy the ad. You can teach.

Founder translation: stop renting attention for a product nobody asked to learn from. Publish the craft in public. My book videos are that experiment — teaching, not ads. Same rule for a bootstrapped company: teach what you know, keep the product simple, let the audience find you.

Don’t outspend them. Out-teach them.

In this clip I’m walking through Castaneda’s four enemies of a person of knowledge, starting with the first one: fear.

Fear whispers what if I fail, I’m not good enough, people will judge me, this is too risky. Don Juan’s line is blunt — if you run from fear, you’ve already been defeated by the first enemy. The only way through is to keep going. Effort and work without clinging to the outcome.

After you push through, clarity shows up and you feel like you’ve figured it out. That confidence is useful — and also the next trap, because you stop asking questions.

Founder translation: the product, the post, the launch you keep delaying isn’t waiting on a better plan. It’s waiting on you to stop negotiating with fear. Ship imperfectly. Keep going. Then don’t freeze when the first win makes you feel finished — stay curious enough to keep learning.

Keep going through fear. Don’t stop at clarity.

I am building https://www.elolyte.com as an experiment.

But it's sincerely a product I would use myself, daily, if I get the highest quality ingredients for the drink.

Permalink · On X

Certainly feels like there is a collective consciousness and / or God, who wants to see you win.

Permalink · On X

In this clip Im reading Siddhartha and catching myself in the exact trap Hesse names.

The seeker only sees the thing he’s hunting. Because hes obsessed with the goal, he cant absorb what’s already under his nose. Seeking means having a goal. Finding means being free enough to receive.

I say out loud: I want a business idea — what do I build? Then I look at the AI agent I already made to mine connections from books I’ve read, and I still ask: is that it? I want to build something else.

Founder translation: the hunt for the perfect product idea keeps you blind to the work already in your hands. You keep seeking the next pitch while the real company is the thing you’ve already started shipping — if youd stop treating it like a temporary experiment.

Stop seeking the idea. Build the thing under your nose.

In this clip I’m picking between two crafts.

One is spirituality, healing, plant medicines — work I’m already good at and could polish into better videos. The other is technical: code, agents, Cursor, mechatronics. While I was reading Don Juan I kept hearing the same line: you have to get technical. Theres no other way. Just go start building something. Just go start walking that path.

That’s the whole episode in one beat. Craft isn’t what you’re gifted at. It’s the path you actually walk.

Founder translation: most of us stay in the craft that already feels like identity — the talk, the brand, the ceremony we know how to run. The hard move is walking into the craft that still feels unfinished. Building. Shipping. Getting technical when the comfortable skill would keep paying the ego.

I say in the clip that I want to build something there. That was the choice.

Walk the unfinished craft.

In this clip I’m reading Naval on judgment.

He says wisdom is knowing the long-term consequences of your actions. Then the harder line: what you work on, and with who, matters more than how hard you work. You still have to put in the time. But judgment is more important. Direction beats speed — especially once you have leverage. Picking the right direction for each decision matters more than how much force you apply. Just pick the direction and start walking.

That’s from The Almanack of Naval Ravikant. Naval’s whole wealth section is built on this: specific knowledge, accountability, leverage — and then judgment on top, so the leverage doesn’t amplify the wrong thing.

Founder translation: most of us try to fix a stuck company by pushing harder. More hours. More features. More force. Naval’s point is the opposite. First ask whether you’re pointed at the right problem, with the right people. Force without direction is expensive theater. Force with the wrong direction is how you burn a year.

I say in the clip that this reading-and-building project finally felt like one of the most correct paths I’d taken. That was judgment catching up with effort.

Direction first. Then walk.

Rework: outside money is plan Z.

Spending other people's money sounds great. There's a noose attached.

You give up control. Cashing out starts to beat building something good. Customers move down the totem pole. Raising money is incredibly distracting.

Mailchimp bootstrapped. Dyson kept control. Same rule I'm on — fund it myself until customers pay.

Take on as little outside cash as you can.

Jim DeKorne's shamanic map is simple.

Higher worlds. Lower worlds. Middle world — the one you live in when you are not journeying.

You don't enter them by looking at the sky. You enter through a center inside yourself. A vertical axis. Worlds inside worlds, like a matryoshka doll.

I keep forgetting that when I build. I look sideways for the next move. The map that matters runs up and down from the inside.

Berkshires Annual Newsletters has been one of the best episode I've enjoyed from @davidsenra

https://www.founderspodcast.com/episodes/88-warren-buffetts-shareholder-letters-all-of-them

Permalink · On X

Don Juan asks one question: does this path have a heart?

All paths lead nowhere. Through the bush, into the bush. You can walk a long way and not be anywhere.

If it has a heart, the path is good. If it doesn't, it's of no use. One makes for a joyful journey. You are one with it. The other makes you curse your life. One makes you strong. The other weakens you.

That's the filter for a company. Two products can both go nowhere on a five-year plan. One you are one with on a Tuesday. The other you curse by week four. Pick the craft that makes you stronger while you walk it. Not the one that looks like a unicorn from far away.

All paths lead nowhere. Ask if this one has a heart.

A lot of respect — the dude replied. I probably wouldn't have. He pointed me at Learn Enough to Be Dangerous, the Ruby on Rails program they taught. I put a lot of effort into it.

That's the whole lesson. The people whose products you actually use will sometimes write back. The email is not the win. Opening the editor is.

After I did the work I realized: my foot is already in this technical world. I want to go deeper.

You don't get a career from one reply. You get a first step. DHH didn't give me a map. He gave me enough to be dangerous. Then you walk.

I read Siddhartha right after Jung.

Jung asks: who am I under the identities.

Hesse asks the next question: once you know you cannot inherit someone else’s path, how do you actually live your own.

Siddhartha goes through every teacher (Brahmins, Samanas, the Buddha, the merchant life) and lands on something simple and hard. Knowledge can be taught. Wisdom has to be lived.

I recognized that. I followed shamans. I found answers. I still have to live my own path. Same for a company. You can study someone else’s map. You cannot copy their wisdom into your product.

Internet companies hire compulsively, spend wildly, fail spectacularly. They're small, frugal, and profitable. Critics call it a fluke. They don't understand how a company can reject growth, meetings, budgets, boards, advertising — and still thrive.

They say sell to the Fortune 500. Screw that. Sell to the Fortune 5 million.

Profitable from day one. No outside investors. They kept control. That's what I aspire to do.

That is the book saying the bootstrap rule before you raise a round: keep the company, serve the many small customers, ignore the Fortune 500 script.

Screw the Fortune 500. Sell to the Fortune 5 million.

Jung’s memoir asks one question: who am I beneath these identities, projections, and unconscious material?

Siddhartha is the next step. Once you realize you cannot simply inherit someone else’s path, how do you actually live your own?

You cannot borrow another person’s wisdom. He moves through teachers and systems (the Brahmans, the Samanas, the Buddha, the merchant life) and then understands something simple and difficult.

Knowledge can be taught. Wisdom has to be lived.

Founders copy playbooks. Pricing from a company that already won. A stack. A 12-week plan. That is knowledge. It transfers.

The company you actually ship does not. You still have to walk through the teachers, drop the ones that are not yours, and live the work. There is no inherited path.

Jung dreamed he was walking into a wind, cupping a tiny light that could go out at any moment, a giant black figure behind him. When he woke, the giant was his own shadow.

Most founders spend the week feeding the giant (the persona, the raise, looking like a real company) and let the only real work flicker. Keep the light alive. The giant is you.

On the one hand I have thousands of ceremonies with different power plants behind me.

Experience with Ayahuasca, Peyote, Cannabis, Magic Mushrooms, DMT, etc.

Skills, knowledge and wisdom I could pair with writing and video.

For leverage to educate and connect with people.

On the other hand I am extremely interested in technology to the extent that I am willing to study mechatronics for 2 years.

It combines mechanical and electrical engineering with robots, sensors, etc.

While also building with AI and agents.

While being a family man who takes care of his health.

I know I need to focus. Become a monopoly of one.

I don't know which path is correct but might get the answer if I just keep pushing and keep these systems alive.

an interesting trajectory. the study of mechatronics will open a door into a world i otherwise would have not had the access to nor ever will to do it later

of course there is a limitless way of approaching our goals and dreams.

goals vs systems.

and this is a great system of learning business, building, content, while also studying the foundations of engineering through mechatronics

great path to building something bigger in the future

You’re not necessarily saying:

You’re saying:

“I want to develop a serious technical foundation so that I can eventually build things that most people cannot.”

That’s different.

And I think that is potentially a very good long game for you.

Being a founder, father, CEO, successful person—or even a “spiritual person”—isn't the problem.

You don't need another breakthrough.

You need to integrate the last one.

I spent years having extraordinary experiences with psychedelics and plant medicines.

Eventually I realized intensity isn't a foundation.

An insight only becomes valuable when it changes how you live.

This is my build at 38 as a husband, father and custodian of 4 pets 😅

Working out DAILY approximately for 30 min. Consistency matters.

I lift weights, do yoga, stretch, kundalini exercises, etc.

Consistency matters. I try to never miss a day but rarely it does happen. Next day I'm certainly back at it!

I eat whatever I want. Mostly healthy: red meat, chicken, fish, eggs, greens, carrots, goat cheese, feta, raw milk, kefir, bone broth, etc.

I don’t guilt myself when in a hurry and grab a fast food burrito or a KFC chicken cheeseburger.

It’s all protein and energy anyways.

Then I remember that hobbies aren’t a distraction—they’re fuel.

Reading books sharpens my mind. Writing sharpens my craft. Playing guitar reminds me why I’m doing any of it in the first place.

The goal isn’t to become a machine.

It’s to build a life worth living.

Started reading Carl Jung’s autobiography for my next book episode.

In the first chapter I reached Jungs description of the “anima” - The anima is the inner feminine voice within a man that shapes how he relates to himself, women, and his inner world.

In my psyche I started thinking about my inner life and my connection to my wife @JenniferPafka

I came to an instant realization that I am at peace with my partner. I have no subconscious thoughts or feelings about other women.

I have a perfect partner with whom we can grow even more if I put in the effort ⚡️

Sometimes I get a burst of inspiration and I've 10 things lined up that I want to do.

Feels so overwhelming and yet I still want to do these things:
- read a book and make an episode
- study
- learn ai tools and build a tool myself
- etc

Sometimes I start doubting myself, how is all of this possible.

Then I notice myself telling myself to just get them done.

Different energy and I usually get the things done.

Having your own place in nature is priceless!

I took my family to my land on Hiiumaa.

We can’t build here because it’s protected land because eagles nest here.

So we just have a small trailer here.

But I’ve been feeling really good for the past 48 hours.

Aligning, healing and just being filled with energy.

I really feel my nervous system just calming down.

I usually live in my mothers house with whom we don’t get along. Feels like that place just drains energy.

I’m more convinced than ever what I need to do next.

Get yourself a place in nature!

"Let go and trust god" is woke.

Yeah, the creator has a higher plan.

Jeff Bezos put it neatly:

"The world wants you to be typical – in a thousand ways, it pulls at you. Don't let it happen.

You have to pay a price for your distinctiveness, and it's worth it...

The world will always try to make Amazon more typical – to bring us into equilibrium with our environment. It will take continuous effort, but we can and must be better than that."

Getting better at listening to our subconscious. Our inner voice. Our soul.

It’s subtle but it’s also clear and usually the reply is instant. You can hear a yes or a no real fast.

I would override it. Thinking that it’s my power and I can do that.

But it’s important to keep in mind the words of Aldous Huxley: to tread lightly, lightly my friend.

So instead of pushing real hard, tread lightly.

And if that doesn’t work, use a handwritten journal to get clear on your thoughts.

Your intuition will speak to you louder on paper once your thoughts have crystallized.
